February has brought us the Super Bowl, Groundhog’s Day, Valentine’s Day, more snow but also a gateway to March and the beginning of Spring in East Aurora. It is great to see the lengthening days, the tempting hours of warmth and glimpses of grass on the course. By the end of March, I expect to have played my first round of golf at the club. For all of you not in warmer climes, I wish that for you as well.
If you review this month’s newsletter carefully, you will find a challenge and a possible reward that we are offering all members. We hope many of you will respond to this opportunity and help us learn how best to improve your experience as an EACC member.
In last month’s newsletter, I mentioned the five goals the Board has adopted for 2022. We have made progress in each of these directions in the last 30 days.
IMPLEMENTING THE LONG-RANGE PLAN
The Implementation team led by D Flaherty with project coordination from B Smith and financial coordination from J Livingston and E Burghardt reported the following results in our February Board meeting:
- The completion of the schematic design process for Phase 1 of the house construction project and the South Patio renovation
- The conduct of an excellent meeting with the Long-Range Planning Committee and the Advisory Council to review and advise about schematic design plans
- The modification of the scope of the South Patio project to include two fire-pit locations and the installation of gas piping for future portable patio heaters as recommended by many Advisory Council members in the review meeting. There will be a visual representation of the completed Patio on display in the main dining room within the next few days
- The modification/simplification of the electrical upgrade project to implement Phase 1 needs only, freeing funds for the change in South Patio scope
- The awarding of a construction contract for the completion of the South Patio to J&L Construction with a completion date on or before May 15, 2022
- The receipt of a detailed cost estimate from Trophy Point, Inc. for Phase 1 of the plan, minus the bunkers. The analysis indicates an expected cost that is manageably above the plan budget for Phase 1. The Board, by unanimous vote, authorized completion of detailed design and will accept contractor bids for the house construction work when detailed design is complete.
- The receipt of two bank financing proposals (from M&T Bank and Lake Shore Savings Bank). The terms of both proposals are in line with the financial assumptions in the approved plan.
- The first phase of bunker work will begin in August 2022. Several committees, led by the Grounds Committee, will advise the Board about which bunkers will be renovated in this first of three phases.Phase 1 plan implementation remains on schedule (see graphic on the next page). Stay tuned for additional information when detailed design plans are complete and contractor bids are received.
