Hello all-
As we enter July, we have reached the apex of the golf season. The International Junior Masters Tournament has begun with a thrilling first three days and boasts perhaps the best men’s field in the past 20 years. I would like to thank all of you for your continuing support of this great event for the club. To all of the volunteers who have hosted families, baked muffins, served as spotters on the course, scorers or any of a number of behind-the-scenes assignments, our sincere thanks for your support. Hats off as well to our IJM Organizing Committee led by Jeff Kamien, Paul O’Brien and Frank Ziolkowski for an event that is perfectly organized and truly exhilarating. I also would like to commend Dave and his staff for the precise organization of tournament logistics, Drew and his team for the excellent condition of the golf course and Eric and his staff and servers for the great meals and other services offered to our guests this week. I hope many of you will have watched some of the golf and attended the final party on Friday, July 1.
Since the special member meeting on June 9, we have moved forward to enter into contract with Lemur Construction and have closed on the construction loan agreement with M&T Bank for the big clubhouse renovation project. Stay tuned for further details in this space regarding the preparations for shutdown later in the season.
At its June meeting, the Board of Directors has agreed to reconvene the Long-Range Plan Steering Committee to review and amend the current long-range plan. If you are interested in participating in that discussion, please give me a call before mid-July. The Board has set a timeline for the Committee’s work and you should stay tuned to further details about the workings of the Committee. We will have a special member meeting in the fall as we did last year to review prospective plan changes with all who are interested. We are committed to keeping this process as open and as inclusive as we have over the past 18 months.
As you will see below, July is a busy month at the club including our two-day member/guest Invitational on July 14 and 15, the centerpiece event of our golf season. I look forward to seeing many of you at these events over the month.
Finally, we are instituting a new feature of the newsletter beginning with the August edition. We are dedicating a space for any member to post information about major happenings in the lives of our members. If you would like to have something published in this space, please contact Judy Smith @ dajusmith@roadrunner.com by the 15th of each month. We will be learning as we go with this feature and reserve the right to edit or not choose to publish content as needed. We will contact you immediately if we must exercise these restrictions.
I hope you enjoy this fun and busy month ahead.
Sean Sullivan, President
