Message from the President: April 2022

Apr 1, 2022 | Members, Newsletter, President's Messages

There were rounds of golf played at our club this past week. The golf course is in beautiful shape having withstood the winter very nicely. You will see some interesting changes out on the course when the season begins. The Grounds Team certainly did not rest during the winter season, implementing several course master plan projects with speed and efficiency. I continue to be amazed at the quality of work accomplished by Drew and his team. Here is hoping that March leaves like a lamb and we can begin playing golf with some predictability by early April.

I always like to lead off this report with a quick report on membership. These are good times. As I write, we have reached full membership capacity. We will begin adding new candidates to the waiting list immediately. The Membership Committee has instituted a new interview process that provides a great opportunity to have the candidates learn about the club and the club to learn about the incoming member. Thanks to D Jones for his great work in building our membership over time and for facilitating the work of the Membership Committee

In addition to course improvements, much progress is being made on a number of fronts. The Long-Range Plan Implementation Subcommittee (D Flaherty, B Smith, M Melas, E Burghardt, D Woloszynski, J Livingston, D Jones and D Thompson) remains on schedule to have bid documents for our major clubhouse renovation to contractors by mid-April (see schedule graphic below). We expect responses back by early May. At that point, we will have greater clarity about the timeline and cost of the project. We have also formed an interior design member team to advise about the selection of lighting, carpet, paint colors, flooring and other finish details that will add character to all areas of the clubhouse. This has been an intense period of work as the detailed design process comes to conclusion. I would like to acknowledge the fine work of our architectural partner, Zaxis, Inc., and the creativity of our interior design consultant, Kathy Lewandowski, in this effort. I hope you will join me as well in recognizing all of your fellow members who have given countless volunteer hours to organize and inform the final design.

In the March Board meeting, a plan for the sequencing of sand-trap work was agreed upon by the Board as recommended by the Grounds Committee. As you will recall, the bunker project will be completed in three phases over the next three years. The contractors will begin on #1 and proceed in order of holes until the funding for Phase 1 is exhausted. They will then pick up where they leave off in phases 2 and 3 until the bunkers for all 18 holes are completed. Phase I will begin in late July/early August after the Invitational is complete.
