In an attempt to bring back the nostalgia of a packed Friday night social, we decided to implement a shotgun start utilizing the entire front 9 while playing in eightsomes for our July 7th social. This enabled members to play with other couples and have dinner together to meet new groups. The turnout was incredible. We had 76 players for our alternate shot format. Andrew & Cori Netzel captured the top spot with a score of 36. We’re also excited to be running another Friday shotgun start on the 4th of August, so be sure to sign up with the golf shop.
Our Friday Social on the 14th of July followed our traditional template and featured a two-person mixed scramble format. Tony & Lisa Bonaventura worked in unison to fire a 25 to best the rest of the field.
The premier event on the calendar for the men was slated for 21st & 22nd as we hosted our 68th Men’s Invitational. I can confidently say that the entire event went off without a hitch and couldn’t be prouder to be associated with this club. We saw some fantastic golf throughout the two days and were thrilled to be able to welcome back guests that we’ve come to know over the past eight years as well as meeting some first-time guests. At the end of the day Saturday, one team remained as the champions. Matt Hasselback & Scott Murray, from The Club at Silver Lake, outlasted last year’s champions Mike Rudzinski and his guest, Aaron Neuman in the shootout. Thank you all for your participation and we are already looking forward to next year’s event. Flight winners are as follows:
Turnberry – Jeff Pappalardo & Mike Wagstaff
Muirfield – Dave Miller & Jeff Schauger
Carnoustie – Rich Day & Dennis Kempner
Royal Troon – John Ulmer & Steve Ulmer
Prestwick – Dan Flaherty & Michael Dougherty
Royal Birkdale – Kevin Fischer & Scott Fischer
St. Andrews – John Wiedeman & Patrick Reynolds
Royal Liverpool – Jeff Kamien & Dan McDonnell
Three days later, we continued with our premier women’s event of the season, the 2023 Women’s Invitational. For the first time in the event’s history, we incorporated a shootout between the two flight winners to determine the overall champion. Donna Almeter and her guest, Marge Starosielec, edged out Sherrill Kujawski and Patty Knab on the 9th hole to capture the crown. It was awesome to see the rest of the field cheering on the ladies in the shootout from the patio. You can certainly tell that the comradery is alive and well with this group. We love putting on this event year after year. More results to follow:
Zaharias Flight Winners – Sherrill Kujawski & Patty Knab – 137
