CLUB HISTORY
Long before the Mulligans, there was a similar group here at East Aurora Country Club. Instead of playing in
the morning and staying for lunch, they played in the afternoon and stayed for dinner. What follows is an
article from the Buffalo Courier-Express from Tuesday, June 22, 1937.
East Aurora Club Forms Hillbillies
The intra-club idea of weekday tournaments and get-togethers, which has been spreading rapidly, has been
adopted by East Aurora Country Club. The latter has organized a club known as the Hillbillies. The first gettogether
will be held Thursday afternoon, with contestants teeing off between 2 and 3.30 o’clock. Dinner will
be served at 7.30 o’clock. Reservations can be made with either Martin Bergen or Milton Trlsh, club
professional, up until starting time.
Other clubs which has adopted this popular idea are Erie Downs’ Cheerios, Park Country Club’s Galoofers,
Transit Valleys Sod Wallopers, South Shore’s Divot Diggers and Meadowbrook’s Meadowlarks.
