CLUB HISTORY
The following is some of the interesting facts compiled by Gordon Fake in the early 1980’s. If anyone has bettered, equaled or know of any similar information, please let me know. Thanks to Eddie ‘Y’ for providing me with a copy of this interesting E.A.C.C. history.
MOST OUTSTANDING
6/9/1962 – Double eagle 2 on par 5 #16 hole by then E.A.C.C. Pro, Don Winkelmes. He drove to brow of hill and hit a 1 iron into the cup on lower level of #16 green.
Double eagle 2 on #16 July, 1980, Eddie Wojtowicz hit a drive to the top of the hill, then hit a 4 wood second shot that landed on the green, bounced once and disappeared into the hole! Voila! Double Eagle 2! Only the second double eagle ever recorded at E.A.C.C.
EXTRAORDINARY
Marge and Fred Purdy both have Hole-in-Ones on #15 par 3. Husband and wife, both, with Hole-in-Ones on same hole. Marge has a Hole-in-One on #2 as well. Hurry up Fred.
MOST COMMENDABLE
Milt Badger, crippled from youth with polio, barley able to walk, let alone hit it big, playing with Ham Wilson, had a very memorable day. On Par 3 Hole #15 he got his putt down for a par 3. On Par 5 #16 he hit a 4 wood third shot from short of the road into the cup on the upper green for an Eagle 3. On Par 4 #17 he hit a 7 iron third shot into the cup for a Birdie 3. Three consecutive 3’s! Milt personally owned the first electric cart at E.A.C.C. Otherwise he would have been unable to play.
ESPECIALLY UNIQUE
John Sansone is the only one that has been known to score an Eagle 2 on Par 4 #14 twice at E.A.C.C. Shall we call this a Double-Double Eagle or An Eagle Double?
SPECIAL MENTION
Eddie Wojtowicz with a Hole-in-One on #2 and also on #15, an Eagle on #1 and #11 and a Double Eagle on #16 is co-holder of the lowest Scratch All-time Ringer Score at E.A.C.C. with Pete Fones. Ringer score – 44.
THAT’S INCREDIBLE
A real family affair, H.R. Merritt, Sr. in 1916, won his first and only Men’s Club Championship at E.A.C.C. H.R. Merritt, Jr. in 1932, at the age of 16 won his first of eleven Men’s Club Championships. Jane Hitchings, in 1946, won her first of seven Women’s Club Championships. Rennie and his father were the first Father and Son to become E.A.C.C Men’s Club Champions. Jane Hitchings and her Father, H.R. Merritt, Sr. were the first and only Father and Daughter to win E.A.C.C Men’s and Women’s Club Championship. Rennie and Jane are the only Brother and Sister to win Men’s and Women’s Club Championships. They share 18 Championships, Rennie (11) and Jane (7).
